University Of Malawi (UNIMA)

Established in 1964
The University of Malawi – the mother university in Malawi – was founded in 1964. Teaching started on 29th September 1965 at the newly established campus which used to be an Asian Secondary School in Blantyre. Only 90 students were enrolled.
Old constituent colleges
By 1967, the then Institute of Public Administration at Mpemba, the Soche Hill College of Education, the Polytechnic, all these in Blantyre, and Bunda College of Agriculture in Lilongwe were incorporated as constituent colleges of the University of Malawi. Except Bunda College and the Polytechnic, the other colleges moved to Zomba in 1973 to form the University of Malawi campus.
Kamuzu College of Nursing became the fourth constituent college in September 1979. In 1991 the College of Medicine was established in Blantyre as the fifth constituent college of the University of Malawi
Great Hall
The Great Hall at University of Malawi is a multi-purpose building that welcomes all to the college campus.
This imposing octagonal-shaped construction stands tall at the Fine and Performing Arts Department and exhibits modern European architecture. Outside, the Hall’s stairs ascend to the balcony that lead to two exit doors.
Clinic
The health facility at University of Malawi is situated about 400 meters from main entrance (arc) opposite the T & D Guest Lodge. The University of Malawi clinic is manned by a complement of professionally trained medical personnel.
It provides quality, comprehensive, confidential health care to students, staff and their dependents. Primary care and counselling services are also available.
A range of other medical and surgical specialty services include: OPD consultation, Orthopedic Services & Minor surgery, ART clinic and HCT services, Under-five clinic, Pharmacy services, Family planning services, Specialist bookings, Antenatal clinics, Counselling services , Quality laboratory services and more
Opening Times
The clinic is open from Monday to Friday from 08: 00am to 05:00pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 08:30am to 12:00 midday. Throughout these hours, the clinic staff adheres to the values of offering “quality medical services with passion”.
